Summer
First Thursdays
Each First Thursday of the month from May to September, businesses along Centre and South Streets are transformed into galleries featuring works from local artists. Open receptions offer a chance to meet the artists, enjoy refreshments, and experience JP's fabulous businesses in an entirely new light. First Thursdays receptions run from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and artworks usually remain on display at many businesses for the remainder of the month.
Fall
Halloween Trick-or-Treat
Centre/South’s commercial district helps JP’s younger set (and young-at-heart adults!) celebrate this most haunted season by offering treats to those who visit businesses wearing costumes. Offered in cooperation with the Jamaica Plain Business and Professional Association (JPBPA).
The Artists’ Ball
Our major benefit, the Artists’ Ball is also one of JP’s best parties! Hundreds of masked guests enjoy a festive evening at the historic Footlight Club. The party includes dancing, refreshments, entertainment, and the company of fellow JP residents. An art auction helps celebrate the area’s rich artistic heritage.
The Holiday Season
Holiday Stroll
Get into the holiday spirit with this evening event that offers games and prizes for children, store promotions, and the wild and wonderful canine parade. This is also the time when Mayor Thomas Menino comes to JP to light the Christmas tree at Monument Park . Co-sponsored by JPBAPA.
Canine Costume Parade
Only in JP would so many dog lovers turn out for the dog-gone fun JP Canine Costume Parade complete with a red carpet to parade along, treats for Fido and a photographer to capture the moment. Co-sponsored by JPBAPA.
Year-Round Happenings
Community Meetings
We host open community meetings and forums throughout the year. Meetings can take the place of a panel discussion to bring interesting viewpoints to the neighborhood or could be a brainstorming session to hear ideas from residents and businesses. Last year we sponsored a panel discussion about the creative economy concept and a brainstorming session entitled “Envisioning Our Downtown”.
