Winner of 2005 "Best of JP" for

"Best Place to See Art"

by readers of the Jamaica Plain Gazette

What is First Thursdays?

Each First Thursday of the month more than two dozen businesses along Centre and South Streets are transformed into galleries featuring works from local artists. Open receptions at each location, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, offer a chance to meet the artists, enjoy refreshments, and experience JP's fabulous businesses in an entirely new light. Artworks usually remain on display for the remainder of the month.

What is the schedule for this year?

May 1 June 5 August 7

How can I get involved?

Artists

To be included in the portfolio of artists, email your web site address and/or attach electronic files of your work to:

Arva Clark, First Thursdays Co-chair, at arvaclark@earthlink.net

We present all the portfolios to participating merchants, who then choose the artists they'd like to exhibit each month.  We then contact the artists who have been selected. In your email, please indicate which First Thursdays dates will work for you.

Businesses

Our district extends from Moraine Street down to Forest Hills Station, and we are always looking for businesses to sponsor an exhibit and opening reception for an artist. You choose the artist you'd like to display, but we will help facilitate the process by introducing you to a wide range of artists' portfolios. Please contact Frank Burns at frankburns@gis.net if you are interested in being involved or with any questions.

Volunteers

First Thursdays is a community-driven project organized by volunteers. There are numerous ways to get involved from event planning and organization to PR/Marketing, or simply helping out during the event. For more information contact:

Randace Moore at 617-522-0300 or rmoore@jpcentresouth.org
